Granite
Granite is a naturally occurring rock formed in the earth’s crust from the cooling of lava composed of quartz, feldspar, mica and various other minerals. The exact mix of minerals is what determines the colour and pattern of the granite. Large blocks of granite are extracted from quarries and cut into slabs that are then used to make bathroom and kitchen countertops So, manufacturing is required to produce granite countertops but the material itself is “natural” vs. man-made materials used to make other types of countertops.
QuartzQuartz is a hard mineral consisting of silica, found widely in igneous and metamorphic rocks and typically occurring as colourless or white hexagonal prisms. It is often coloured by impurities.
